    1. Ben Patrick Johnson

Ben Patrick Johnson began writing at the age of five His first essays were printed on a mimeograph machine in a church basement in St Paul, MN and performed for his parents and whichever neighbor children he could get to sit still and listen for a few minutes Johnson went on to pursue a career in media after barely finishing high school and fooled enough people in the business that, at 22, he was named Director of Production for ABC Talkradio in Los Angeles In 1994, a difficult year as a correspondent for the TV show EXTRA cured him of any further ambitions in entertainment journalism Following EXTRA, Johnson self soothed by eating lots of sheet cake late at night, sometimes in supermarket parking lots He became a full time voice over actor and started writing seriously Today, he has five novels to his credit and is the leading trailer and promo voice in Hollywood Concurrently, Johnson has emerged as a noted social media LGBT and Human Rights activist with 300,000 followers on Twitter and Facebook He lives with his husband Mariano and arguably too many pets on a hillside overlooking Los Angeles.

    1. A very nice surprise!I stumbled upon this book completely by accident. I usually hear about a great book from my girlfriends (and my mom is also a great source!), but a FB ad caught my eye one day and I took a chance on If the Rains Don't Cleanse.I had never heard of the author (Ben Patrick Johnson) and did not know what to expect. I certainly did not expect to be drawn into this American woman's amazing story based (mainly) in Africa. The ending is a whiz banger - a real shocker - and worth get [...]

    2. If the Rains Don't Cleanse is fictionalized account of the author's mother's story as a young missionary with her husband in the 1950s Belgian Congo. Freshly married and out of college, Eva and her husband Richard decide to spend their lives serving the Lord and they set out for Africa, primarily to work among black people. Despite their dedicated enthusiasm, the couple faces many trials and tribulations as they grow accustomed to working in a totally different culture with relatively unsupporti [...]

    3. One of the best novels I've read in a long time. It has the heart and soul of The Color Purple and The House of the Spirits. I had the pleasure of sitting with Mr. Johnson at his home in the Hollywood Hills and interview him. This is the type of novel that Hollywood should be beating dowm his door to make into a movie.Based in part on Johnson's family and their work in the Congo, it is a true work of art.I can't stress enought this book!

    4. Fantastic book! Amazing story about missionaries in the Congo right around 1957. I couldn't put it down and read it in about 2 days. Excellent read about a subject I don't know much about.
