    1. I'm finished with Michael Gresham: Great new series start by John Ellsworth. I've enjoyed his Thaddeus Murfee novels for years, and this series is just as good. Can't wait for the next one!

    2. I hated this. The 'hero' is misogynistic, racist and deluded into thinking he's a soft-hearted generous soul. He's supposed to be the best defense lawyer in Chicago yet at 55 he is out of money because of the amount of alimony he is paying - although he seems to have been divorced for about 10 seconds and the poor stony-broke little lamb is living in a house worth over a million dollars. And over the course of this book he is perfectly happy to consider murdering people, going up against gangster [...]

    3. A new favorite.udgingly.I have to admit I began reading this book with a bit of resentment. I am a big fan of John Ellsworth and have read every one of his books. I especially loved the Thaddeus Murfee series and found myself heavily invested in the characters. So, I found myself wondering why Ellsworth wasted his time on a new character/series when he could have spent it on another Thad Murfee book. For the first quarter of this book, I couldn't help but focus on the change in writing style and [...]

    4. "Best Ever Thrill Ride"I've added author John Ellsworth to my favorite authors' list. I have read the second novel in this series and decided I'd start again with Book 1. Ellsworth is extremely talented, very successful in enticing readers with excellent legal thrillers with well defined characters. Michael Gresham is a criminal defense attorney who also has a brother who won't stay on his meds, a money hungry ex-wife, and a client accused of murdering the wife of a judge. Readers can jump right [...]

    5. I wasn't a huge fan of this book. I felt at times it was all over the place and jumped around a lot. though, in the end it did all tie together. I felt the book was slow though, and not super suspenseful. Unless you are a fan of John Ellsworth or the series, I'm not sure I would recommend.

    6. The LawyerExcellent and humerus book! Well written and I was laughing all throughout while reading it. Learnt some legal terms also.

    7. I liked the book. It's not just another lawyer book but down and dirty. Michael Gresham fights for his life and his career as a lawyer. Practicing Criminal Defense Law shouldn't be as dangerous this, but it sometimes is. I will definitely read more by this author.

    8. I liked this book. It was a quick easy read. It kept me interested too. Yes the book seemed somewhat far fetched at times but no where did I read that this book was a "true story". I read the reviews and if I see more positive than negative then I read it and I am glad I did. There was one really bad review that just slammed this author left and right while I am not literary genius, I dislike reading boring books that just drag and this one did none of those and for that reason I gave it 5 stars [...]

    9. Lots a fun This book is a good read. I love detective stories. This detective is an attorney. There is humour and unbelievable situations. It's hard to believe one person can survive such abuse and still keep a positive attitude and carry on. I'm ready to start book number two.

    10. I would not reccomend this book. The author constantly confused me. One chapter he would be discussing an issue and the next chapter he would jump two weeks ahead and discuss another issue. Also mistakes in continuity.

    11. I like this book well enough, but it wasn't as compelling as a John Grisham novel. I actually cared about some of the characters and the legal aspects were generally spot on as far as procedure goes.

    12. Decent story, but really, really sloppy writingI rarely give less than four stars, most books that rate fewer I won't finish and hence won't review. The story moves and is kind of interesting. Things kept cropping up and there were enough that I couldn't chalk it up to being inattentive on my part. Here are some of the things I noticed:Talking about the judge's son, the agent says"No mess, no fuss. Sound asleep. I touched his pulse just to be sure. "Then the judge's testimony he talks about taki [...]

    13. THE LAWYERJohn EllsworthReviewed by Author Roy MurryThe twist and turns in this legal thriller will have your head spinning. Michael Gresham, the series protagonist lawyer, defends a low life in a murder case with one judge on the bench and another, the victim's husband in the courtroom. To top this off his brother, a well-known lawyer, is a missing person with an international problem which has involved Michael in a deadly incident. And the reader, to the conclusion of the novel, is trying to fi [...]

    14. The story of a partially successfull lawyer in Chicago, there are quite a few reasons to scratch your head about this one. i won't go into much detail here, but with about 30% left in the book, something really frightening happens. Now I can't put the book down! But the remaining is sort of disappointing to me. The bad guys turn into pussycats. Everything the lawyer does from this point on is golden, except for the setup / killing near the end. The very end is realistic and sets up everything as [...]

    15. First, let me start by saying this is not one of my normal genres to read. I found this book on my weekly Book Blup new feed and thought I would give it a chance. All I can say now is I am hooked on John Ellsworth and his Michael Gresham series. This book opens quickly getting you in touch with the characters and the setting. I watch a lot of courtroom programs but never thought I would like reading them. With the style of writing from Mr. Ellsworth and his in-depth knowledge of the courtroom an [...]

    16. It seems as if the author “John Ellsworth” had many ideas for many books, but none of them was good enough to fill up 300 pages. So what he did was gathering all those ideas into a single book with a very a thin connection (or none) between them. The result was a scrambled story that doesn’t make much sense. That is probably why it has so many endings at the end.Not worth writing a detailed review. Since I somehow I was able (after a long struggle) to reach successfully to the end, I think [...]

    17. What a great book! Wasn't at all what I was expecting, but sometimes being surprised by the way a book turns out makes the time you put into it actually worthwhile. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of this series. What a great book! Wasn't at all what I was expecting, but sometimes being surprised by the way a book turns out makes the time you put into it actually worthwhile. 18. More like 2.5 or closer to 2.75 stars.I liked the book overall. The plot was interesting and had an arc and twists that were unexpected. However, there were definitely some glaring timeline issues or mistakes that left me.flabbergasted for lack of a better term. It was these editorial issues that knocked this book off a solid three stars. The character of Michael Gresham is easy to like and I am interested in seeing what happens in the next book.

    19. The Lawyer by John EllsworthI love the excitement of attorneys in a criminal trial. It is quite unusual when an attorney and federal judge both get indicted. This is a well-written and fast paced story that has many twists and turns. It is not often a highly acclaimed attorney gets doused with gasoline and set on fire!!! There are quite a few surprises and an unexpected ending. You will enjoy this read.

    20. This was not one of my favorite reads. The storyline did not flow well for me at all. I felt the author skipped around all over the place, and often put in random information that ended up having no significance, leaving you wondering why it was even mentioned in the first place. The author repeated a pregnancy in this book over and over in several different locations, as if it had just happened. It was very confusing, and I felt the ending was predictable and cheesy.

    21. There were twists and turns aplenty in this story - and a great deal of out-of-court action that put the main character into some very sticky, even life-threatening, situations. The ending came all too quickly, in parts a little rushed and a lot of loose ends were tied up in a few pages, with a cliffhanger to boot. Luckily, the next in the series is already out, so I'm not left hanging on that cliff too long.

    22. Unexpected twists and turnsI like the main character: smart, honest, and an effective lawyer. Michael Gresham is a very relatable guy who gets into tricky situations and has honest reactions: fear, anger. The surprising turns keep coming as we try to figure out what's really going on.

    23. This is a new author for me and only found him as a Book Bub recommendation. Quite a surprise that I enjoyed it so much but I am a big fan of courtroom dramas. Grisham used to be an author I could count on to entertain but lately he has slipped into boring and tedious dramas. (Maybe his new one will be better??!!)

    24. I love mystery/legal works and I’d never read this author. I’m hooked. Enjoyed the main character-Michael Gresham -and the plot twists were quite interesting. Easy to see that this set -up will lead to further books in this series. Very easy read and lots of entertaining situations and dialogue. I’d recommend it.

    25. I love all of Michael Gresham's books! They are the best books on court cases and lawyers I have ever read!I am looking forward to reading many more of Mr Gresham's books. They are hard to put down. I have learned a great deal about the law from reading his books. That is why I would give him more than five stars if I could!! An reader!!

    26. Poorly edited with too many plotsThere were numerous sections of this book that seemed to have suffered from poor copy & pasting. A couple of sections were so out of place that they read like notes that hadn't been deleted from the final draft. Sadly there were too many inconsistencies for me to invest more money in this writer.

    27. Very enjoyable legal thrillerI enjoyed this book because it involved the legal system and took place in Chicago. I pride myself on figuring out plot twists before they are revealed and this book surprised me on a few twists which I actually love. The plot and the numerous twists make this a very good read.

    28. Legal thriller is an understatement.Michaels wife left him for a younger man, his law partners booted him from the firm he started so he's on is own for the first time in 30 years. Now he's juggling cases, hiring an attorney and trying to straighten out his brother who's off his meds.

    29. This is a killer legal thriller worthy of John Grisham. This plot is so twisted, every time I thought I’d figured out what’s what, I was thrown once again into the dark. Plenty of action, danger, and legal maneuverings, and a love interest to keep things hot. I was absolutely not prepared for the shocker of an ending. I look forward to reading more from this author!

    30. Thoroughly enjoyedWhat a fabulous read great story twists and turns when least expected marvellous a reals page turner really enjoyed this book look forward now to the rest of the series don't take my word but if your reading my review I think you'll enjoy this book I did well done john Ellsworth
